Treatment Crab Lice

This section is about what over the counter treatments are available (not all treatments may be available in that country) and how they help.

 

  • Please check all ingredients if one are allergic or sensitive to them.
  • All products are flammable; keep away from naked flames or cigarettes.
  • Please use all products according to manufacturer’s instructions for treatments to be effective.
  • Treat all household members and those who have had close contact (including sexual contact) evening if they have had no symptoms.
  • It is normal to have itching after treatment. Treatment has not failed; it takes time to kill the lice.
  • These products should be used for treatment purposes.
  • They are not repellents.

Aim:

  • The aim is to kill all the crab lice and stop the itching.

Traditional Insecticides

These treatments contain chemicals that mites by acting on their nervous system and have been traditionally used

Alcoholic Lotions

They are highly inflammable so do not dry hair with hair dryers (let your hair dry naturally) or light objects nearby i.e. cigarettes or be near a naked flame of gas heater.

They get inactivated by chlorine in swimming pools, so one doesn’t recommend one goes swimming throughout treatment and it should not be used by asthmatics or eczema patients (alcohol content can irritate skin and can trigger asthma attacks).

Aqueous Products

These come in a range of formulations, e.g. creams, liquids and mousse. They kill mites by acting on their immune system and have been traditionally used.

Crab Lice treatment

  • It is essential to apply to all hairy areas (except head)

If in eye lashes

  • Consider to use simple eye ointment (this will stop crab lice from moving so they can’t feed) until no more lice are seen (8-10 days later) lice can then be plucked off with tweezers.

Herbal

Vitamins - If depressed

Multivitamins are not intended to prevent long term conditions, reduce infection and is not proven (or data is weak) to help with cancer.

These are essential nutrients that the body requires in small amounts to function properly.

Herbal - If depressed
