Treatment Corn

This section is about what over the counter treatments are available (not all treatments may be available in that country) and how they help.

  • Please check all ingredients and do not use if sensitive to any ingredients or allergic to them.
  • Products should not be applied on thin skin, face, eyes, ears, genitals, arms or any mucus membrane, nail beds/lips lining.
  • For External use only.
  • All products are highly flammable, keep away from naked flames, cigarettes, hair dryers, do not put on straight after hot bath/shower

Aim:

  • The aim to heel the callous or corn and has the skin back to its original state.

 Lactic Acid/Salicylic Acid

  • Salicylic acid belongs to a group of drugs called keratolytics. It works by bringing moisture to the top layer of the skin and works by softening keratin, a protein which is found in the skin structure. It removes the outer dead layer of the virus infected skin.
  • In some products an emery board or pumice is provided (or it can be obtained separately) to remove dead layer of skin easily.
  • Some products form a barrier to prevent the virus from spreading and no plaster.
  • These products must not be used by those who have diabetes (diabetes need close sugar monitoring as high sugar levels can impair the healing process and are prone to infection and need to be checked if it is not an ulcer) , those with circulation problems, on an infected wound, or the wound is injured or open, foot ulcer or appears diseased or if there is any usual growth and must see a medical doctor or a chiropodist.

Epsom salts

  • Epsom salts can help soften calluses in preparation for other treatments, such as manual exfoliation with a pumice stone or foot file.
  • Add a handful of Epsom salts to a bath or basin of warm water, then soaking the affected skin for 10 minutes.

Filing and cutting products

  • These products are used to remove the hard skin.It is done by filing the hard skin down or by cutting the hard skin.
  • In both cases, beware not to damage the good skin and if used on a child, a responsible adult must do it for them.

Urea products

  • These are used to hydrate the skin, replace natural moisturisers in the skin and soften the thick skin.
  • They cannot be used on broken skin or if have any kidney problems.
