Monilethrix is a rare genetic hair disorder causing brittle, sparse hair with a distinctive “beaded” appearance under a microscope due to periodic constrictions and normal-thickness nodes on the hair shaft, leading to easy breakage, often starting in infancy on the scalp’s nape but sometimes affecting eyebrows, eyelashes, and body hair.
