What is it?
Hypomagnesia (low levels of magnesium in blood)
- Normal ranges of serum magnesium are around about 0.7-1.0 mmol/L.
- A mild deficiency is generally classified as 0.5-0.7 mmol/L.
- A moderate deficiency as 0.4-0.5 mmol/L.
- Severe deficiency as less than 0.4 mmol/L.
Symptoms are not normally apparent till less than 0.5mmol/L, moderate deficiency with symptoms, or severe deficiency, usually requires hospital assessment and intravenous magnesium replacement.

- Headache which is on and off (longer than a week) or a constant headache longer than 24 hours?
- Sickness and/or nausea feeling?
- Abdominal pain and/or are constant violently vomiting or vomiting longer than two days (one day if a child)?
- General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?
- Aching, painful muscles, muscle cramps/spasms/stiffness (particularly hands and feet)?
- Shaking and/or trembling and/or tremors?
- Irritated, depressed, anxiety and/or panic attack and/or emotional (laugh or cry for no reason)?
- Pain, numbness, burning and tingling (pins and needles) sensation in one’s hands and fingers (thumb and/or index finger and/or middle finger and/or ring finger and/or small finger)?
- Sharp pain or numbness sensation spread in groin and/or buttocks and/or thighs?
- Pain and/or numbness and/or tingling sensation in one or both legs and/or foot area and/or leg aching which comes and goes?
- Seizures

- Whole grain pasta and bread
