Group II antiarrhythmics

Beta-blockers. These work by blocking sympathetic nervous system stimulation to the heart, thereby reducing the transmission of impulses within the heart’s conduction system.

  • Esmolol (Brevibloc)

 

Group III antiarrhythmics

Potassium-channel blockers, bind to and block the potassium channels which prolongs repolarization of the cell membrane.

  • Sotalol (Betapace, Sorine, Sotylize)
  • Dronedarone (Multaq)
  • Ibutilide (Corvert)

 

Group IV antiarrhythmics

Calcium-channel blockers, which inhibit the calcium channels reducing the movement of calcium ions in the cells during action potentials.
