Nose Bleeds

Nose bleeds occur due to blood vessel in the nose bleed, leak or burst if harmed.

Causes 

  • Blowing your nose hard
  • Underlying diseases i.e. high blood pressure, Wegner’s granulomatosis, tumors, blood clotting dysfunction
  • Infection
  • Deviated septum (a crooked nose, or pathway in nose prone to injury)
    Cold weather
  • Any condition drying out your nostrils (hot climate, or central heating, air conditioned rooms)
  • Picking your nose
  • High altitude (on a plane)
  • Injury
  • Medication i.e. for blood clots -warfarin

Symptoms

Does one have:

  • A bleed (heavy or light) which is short i.e. for less than 10 minutes?
  • Is the blood loss light for 10-20 minutes?
  • Bleed feel as if it is coming from the lower end of the nose (nostrils)?
