Cradle Cap

Cradle cap is ‘baby dandruff’ and is not harmful or contagious.

  • It is a condition which can flare up and develop quickly.

It is not due to poor hygiene

Cause
  • Unknown
  • However it is thought to be caused by:
    • An agent called Malassezia Pityrosporum Ovale/Pityrosporum and Candida.
    • Vitamin H (B7) deficiency – part of vitamin b complex
    • Too much sebum (a moisturising agent) produced by the skin which reduces the shedding of the skin.
    • It occur on ‘ rich areas’ of the face , ear and or scalp.
    • It normally occur in babies up to to 3 months of age.

Symptoms

Does one have:

  • Appear like thick greasy yellow scales?
  • Scales flake and the skin underneath appear red?
  • Crusty on the scalp?
