What is it?

A common long term skin condition affecting the skin folds.

Common areas include:

  • Under the breasts (chest)
  • Under the arms
  • Armpits
  • Abdomen
  • In the groin and inner thighs
  • Legs
  • Between the toes, especially between the 3rd, 4th and 5th toes.

Common

  • It is common among persons who live in warm, humid climates.
  • It is also more common in dark-skinned people.

Cause

  • Bacteria: Corynebacterium minutissimum.

Symptoms

  • Pink to red, scaly skin on skin folds?
  • Sharp border between the affected patch and the surrounding normal skin?
  • Slowly enlarging patches of pink to brown dry skin?
  • Over time, the pink or red color fades to tan or brown?
  • Mild itching or burning?
