Schnitzler Syndrome

What is it?

Schnitzler’s syndrome (SchS) is rare autoinflammatory disease.

Cause

  • Blood abnormality called monoclonal gammopathy, a condition in which the body over-produces certain immunoglobulins (typically immunoglobulin M). Immunoglobulins are proteins that are made by certain white blood cells.

Symptoms

  • Red raised patches of skin (urticaria) that may become itchy?
  • Recurrent fever?
  • Joint pain and stiffness?
  • Enlarged lymph node on the side of your neck or in your underarm (armpit) and/or collarbone and/or groin area and/or reoccurring mouth ulcers?
  • Bone pain?
  • Blood abnormalities?
  • Aching, painful muscles, muscle cramps/spasms/stiffness?
  • General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?
  • Unexplained weight loss?
  • Abdominal heaviness and/or swelling in abdomen and liver area?
  • Lump appear on left hand side of abdomen due to the spleen swelling?
