Dumping syndrome - Medtick

Dumping syndrome

What is it?

When food moves to quickly (rapid gastric emptying) from the stomach to the intestines (abdomen).

  • Symptoms are more noticeable when one has a high sugary (glucose) meal, this is mainly because if too much food enters the intestine quickly, our body reacts and produces insulin and cause sugar to move out of our blood and into our organs causing  hypoglycemia symptoms.

Dumping syndrome is broken down into two types:

Early dumping syndrome

  • Symptoms occurring within 10 to 30 minutes following a meal.

Late dumping syndrome

  • Symptoms occur two to three hours following a meal.

  • It’s rare to experience both ‘early and late dumping syndromes’ together.
