What is it?

A tumour in the spine can cause pressure on the nerves in the spine similar to many other spinal conditions.

Symptoms

  • Pain that is severe when there is direct manipulation and/or compression (i.e. it is massaged) to the affected area of the spine?
  • Stiff back (particular at mornings and/or night)?
  • Upper back and neck stiffness?
  • Pain in pelvis area and/or lower back?
  • Joint pain and stiffness?
  • Pain that does not diminish with rest?
  • General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?
  • Difficulty using arms and/or body and/or legs and/or lack of stamina and/or walking difficulties?
  • Loss of bowel control – can’t hold going to the toilet to excrete faeces (bowel incontinence)?
  • Change in bowel habits/movement greater than three weeks i.e. going to the toilet more often or less often than usual?
  • Increase thirst, heavy sweating and need to urinate frequently?
  • Overactive (urgency to go to toilet) or underactive bladder and/or difficult to start urinating and stop urinating (Strain to urinate due to weak flow)?
  • Abdominal pain and/or are constant violently vomiting or vomiting longer than two days (one day if a child)?
  • Unexplained weight loss?
  • High temperature greater than 38°C (100°F) or over and/or chills and sweats longer than 72 hours?
