Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. It remains dormant or inactive in our bodies, unless a trigger factor makes it active.

Has one experienced the following triggers?

Conditions making immune system weak e.g. cold, fever.
Emotional events.
Extreme temperature/weather hot or cold.
Feeling physically tired and weak leading to a weak immune system.
Hormonal changes e.g. menstruation cycle, pregnancy,
Injury to the mouth, including surgery or dental treatment.
Kissing
Knock on lips/face
Stress
UV light from sunshine.

Medication:
- Medication making one immune system weak
- Change or recent use of contraceptive/ HRT of hormonal supplements

Symptoms

Does one have:

Few hours To one day: Experiencing tingling or burning, itchy or numb sensation on/around the lips?

1-2 days: Developed into a painful, fluid-filled blister(s) approx. 2-5mm in diameter?

One day: Blister burst, hence weeping (at this point it is contagious) leaving a greyish colour appearance surround by hot/swollen, raised red skin?

5 days: Ulcer drying out turning to an itchy scab?

Cold sore and/or spots in or on nostrils
