Acute-Brain Syndrome

What is it?

Delirium, confusion, disorientation, developing suddenly in a person who was previously psychologically normal.


Concussion

  • This condition can have similar symptoms to a concussion i.e. blow to head
  • Hear a ‘thunder clap’ in one head and/or stroke and/or behaviour and/or mood changes, memory loss or any other symptoms in this chapter – do not wait, seek urgent medical attention.
  • Rest and reduce screen time.
  • Any head injury relevant assessments must be preformed with in 72 hours.
  • If symptoms persist after initial check up, seek medical attention.
  • Symptoms include:
    • Behaviour and/or mood changes
    • Memory loss
    • Difficult in learning things
    • Balance issues
    • Shaking
    • Uncontrolled movements and/or  jerk movements
    • Speech issues

Symptoms

  • Delirium:
    • Problem with attention (This could mean the person is inattentive and does not focus or that he or she can focus on tasks but at the expense of all else — failure to shift attention)?
    • Disorganised thinking (such as not being able to remember things or being confused)?
    • Altered level of consciousness (hyper-alertness and on edge, or sluggish, drowsy or withdrawn)?
    • Change is sudden and/or does it fluctuate over hours or days?
  • Confusion?
  • Disorientation?
