What is it?
Rare disorder resulting from renal tubular damage of unknown cause and is characetised by an abnormal loss of sodium from the kidney.
Symptoms
- General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?
- Tanning of the skin?
- Nausea and vomiting?
- Weight loss?

Medical Emergency Condition
And/or do not wait, phone for an ambulance if have or develop:
- Hyponatremia
- Azotemia (increased levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine levels)
- Metabolic acidosis
- Dehydration
- Vascular collapse (Peripheral circulatory collapse involves outlying arteries and veins in the body and can result in gangrene, organ failure or other serious complications)
- Shock:
- Rapid heart rate (rapid pulse)
- Rapid breathing
- Dilated pupils
- Pale, cool skin
- Sweating (diaphoresis)
- Yawning
- If shock occurs (whilst awaiting for an ambulance):
- Lay the person down (if their injuries allow it) and raise and support their legs
- Use a coat or blanket to keep them warm, but do not cover their face or the burnt area
- Do not give them anything to eat or drink
