Treatment Threadworm

This section is about what over the counter treatments are available (not all treatments may be available in that country) and how they help.

  • Please check all ingredients and make sure you are not sensitive and or allergic to any ingredients
  • Treat all members in household at once to prevent re-infection

Aim:

  • To kill the parasites, reduce symptoms and continue one’s normal routine.

Mebendazole

    • It kills parasites not eggs.
    • The first course will kill the parasites, but there still may be eggs left behind.
    • A second course should be taken 14 days later to kill any young worms hatched before they are old enough to reproduce more eggs.

Piperazine

  • It paralyses the worms so they are passed out via bowel movement.
  • The first course will paralyse the parasites, but there still may be eggs left behind.
  • A second course should be taken 14 days later to paralyse any young worms hatched before they are old enough to reproduce more eggs.
