Treatment Warts and Verrucas

This section is about what over the counter treatments are available (not all treatments may be available in that country) and how they help.

Please check all ingredients and do not use if sensitive to any ingredients or allergic to them.
Products should not be applied on thin skin, face, eyes, ears, genitals, arms or any mucus membrane, nail beds/lips lining.
For External use only.
Products are highly flammable, keep away from naked flames, cigarettes, hair dryers, do not put on straight after hot bath/shower

Drops and ointments should be considered first before considering freezing products (unless if ointments and drops are not suitable)

Salicylic acid belongs to a group of drugs called keratolytics.
It works by bringing moisture to the top layer of the skin and works by softening keratin, a protein which is found in the skin structure.
It removes the outer dead layer of the virus infected skin.
Treatment should be done daily and applied directly to the wart or verrucas (It would be a good idea to put petroleum jelly around surrounding area or plaster in order not to damage the good skin when using the products).
In some products an emery board or pumice is provided (or it can be obtained separately) to remove dead layer of skin easily.
Some products form a barrier to prevent the virus from spreading and no plaster is required.
One may need up to 3 months of treatment depending on the wart/verrucas.
These products must not be used by those who have diabetes (diabetes need close sugar monitoring as high sugar levels can impair the healing process and are prone to infection and need to be checked if it is not an ulcer) , those with circulation problems, on an infected wound, or the wound is injured or open, foot ulcer or appears diseased or if there is any usual growth and must see a medical doctor or a chiropodist.

These products are used to help eliminate the virus by making the environment dry and not letting virus grow.
It also causes local hot, red, swelling (inflammation) attracting more blood to area to fight virus infection.
These products must not be used by those who have diabetes (diabetes need close sugar monitoring as high sugar levels can impair the healing process and are prone to infection and need to be checked if it is not an ulcer) , those with circulation problems, on an infected wound, or the wound is injured or open, foot ulcer or appears diseased or if there is any usual growth and must see a medical doctor or a chiropodist.

These help to clear warts/verrucas by destroying the outer layer of dead skin that is infected by virus or by causing local inflammation attracting more blood to area to fight viral infection.
This should only be used in children over 4 years because it can be painful and is usually considered if salicylic acid/aldehyde products were not effective.
If multiple infection, each wart/verruca should be treated only at one time.
For an old or large wart/verruca if the first treatment is not effective then a second application can be applied after a two week interval.
Overuse or exposure to freezing can damage skin and lead to scarring and nerve damage.

Multivitamins are not intended to prevent long term conditions, reduce infection and is not proven (or data is weak) to help with cancer.
