Urea Plasma Ueralyticum/Parvum

What is it?

A bacterial infection that can be passed via sexual intercourse.

  • Ureaplasma can be passed during sexual contact.
  • These bacteria may also be passed to a foetus or new born if the mother has Urea plasma infection during pregnancy.
It rarely causes any symptoms and treatment should be considered when all other Sexually transmitted diseases conditions have been ruled out or treatments are ineffective.

Cause

  • Bacteria: Parvum Urealyticum

Symptoms

  • Have tried all other STD treatments and have been ineffective?
  • Burning sensation when passing urine?
  • Irritation?
  • Unusual vaginal/penile discharge?

General tips

  • Practise safer sex.
  • No sex until antibiotic treatment is completed and your usual sexual partner has completed treatment.
  • A follow-up test must be done to make sure that treatment has cleared the infection.
  • All sexual partners need to be contacted, tested and, if indicated, treated. Even if partners have no symptoms they may be able to transmit infection to other sexual partners.
  • Testing to exclude other sexually transmitted infections is advisable.
