A growth (pink, fleshy tissue) over ‘the white part of the eye (conjunctiva)’ that slowly appears over time.
It can grow over they eye pupil and affect ones vision
The growth can also occur on the nail (scarring/injury between the proximal nailfold and matrix) where the skin grows on to the nail dividing/splitting the nail in two.
Pinguecula
Yellowish raised growth on the whites of eye, it a deposit of calcium,fat and protein.
It is believed to be caused by changes in the whites of eye (conjuctiva) tissue.
It is non- cancerous and normally forms on the inner side of the eye near the nose.
All bumps in the eye should be investigated especially if causing blurred vision and discomfort
Cause
Eyes:
Long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light or sunlight including sunlight reflected off snow or water
Outdoor jobs exposed to sunlight
Living or working in a dry and/or windy and/or dusty climate/condition
Wear UV-protection sunglasses or eye wear to shield your eyes from dust, wind, and sunlight. This will also protect your eyes from bright reflections on water or snow.
Use lubricating eye drops to help soothe and moisten your eyes.
Wear a wide-brimmed hat to help shield your eyes from the sun.
