What is it?

A condition that is known by tingling, numbness and burning pain in your outer thigh.


Diagnosis Tests

Cause

  • Compression or pinching  of the nerve (lateral femoral cutaneous nerve) that supplies sensation to the skin surface of your thigh.
  • Tight clothing and/or wearing tight pants and/or tight belts
  • Wearing a heavy tool belt
  • Obesity or weight gain
  • Pregnancy
  • Diabetes
  • Age (between the ages of 30 and 60 are at a higher risk)

Symptoms

  • Sharp pain spread down and/or sharp tingling or numbness sensation  to thighs and/or buttocks?
  • Tingling and numbness and/or burning pain on the surface of the outer (lateral) part of your thigh ?
  • Aching, painful muscles, muscle cramps/spasms/stiffness?
  • Pain on thigh at one side of your body?
  • Symptoms become worst after walking (walking difficulties) or standing?

Complications /Information to beware of/General tips:

This condition may show similar symptoms to:

  • Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)- bony growths develop around the hip joint symptoms include:
    • Dull or sharp anterior hip pain that worsens with weight bearing
    • Aching or sharp pain in the groin area that moves toward the outside of the hip
    • Pain is often felt once standing after sitting for a prolonged period of time  and/or stiffness and limping
  • Osteoarthritis of the hip
