Dermatosis Neglecta

What is it?

A skin condition caused by inadequate hygiene of a certain body part, this occurs if one is afraid to wash that area due to if they have a disease/pain or can’t reach  in that area or had a recent operation in the area or simply to the fact they do not wash for many months.

Cause

  • Build up of of sebum, keratin, sweat, dirt
  • Poor hygiene practices

Symptoms

  • Localised patch of discoloured skin (hyper- pigmentation) with scales?
  • Wart-like plaque (raised skin)?
  • When washed with an alcohol- base product and water, skin changes colour occurs and it seems to get better?
