Bladder Stones

What is it?

When one does not empty their bladder fully for along time, chemicals from ones urine form crystals  and then to hard lumps of minerals  inside the bladder.

Symptoms occur because the stones either irritate the wall of the bladder or block the flow of urine and normally occur over the age of 50 years old.

Cause

  • Poor diet eating high salty , fatty foods, sugary foods
  • Prostate enlargement (blocks the flow of urine)
  • Constipation
  • Not emptying the bladder fully {urinate again 10 to 20 seconds after your first attempt (if you’re unable to empty your bladder completely first time); this is called double voiding and helps empty the bladder more efficiently}
  • Lack of drinking enough water to dilute ones urine
  • Delaying to urinate (always empty your bowels regularly, try not to hold for long periods)
  • Neurological disease affecting your bladder
  • Cystocele (condition that affects females when there bladder weakens and put pressure on the vagina)
  • After giving birth
  • Heavy lifting
  • Bladder diverticula (pouches that develop in the wall of the bladder)
  • Vaginal prolapse

Symptoms

  • Abdominal pain and/or are constant violently vomiting or vomiting longer than than two days (one day if a child)?
  • Abdominal pain which comes quickly and getting worse over 3-4 hours and/or Leaning forward or curling into a ball relieves pain?
  • Pain in pelvis area and/or lower back?
  • Pain when urinating?
  • Burning sensation during urinating?
  • Peeing more frequently (particularly at night)?
  • Cloudy and/or dark-coloured urine and/or smelly urine?
  • Blood in the urine?

Obstruction to urine flow

If one feels there is an obstruction to ones urine flow (could be an obstruction/stone/tumours/infection blocking the flow), symptoms include:

  • Experiencing hesitancy when urinating, like having trouble getting the urine released or noticing a weak and/or intermittent stream of urine?
  • Bladder feels like its not empty after urinating?
  • Straining to urinate?
  • Pain in the side or mid back area or pain moving from abdomen to back area?
