Baby Acne - Medtick

Baby Acne

  • This acne-type rash develops at birth and/or between 2 and 4 weeks of age.
  • There is no cure, in time it will clear itself.
  • It can stay normally for a couple of months.
  • If longer than three months or if severe see your doctor (there is a form of baby acne called infantile acne, which typically affects babies 3–16 months of age and is usually more severe and consists of more lesions, hence it needs to be checked by your medical doctor. It may last a few weeks to a few months, but most cases usually resolve by age 3 years old).

Cause

  • Puberty
  • Hormonal changes that babies receive from their mother at the end of pregnancy.
  • Family history of acne in family
  • Heavy sweating
  • Stress
  • Medication taken by mother passed on during breastfeeding
Any rash that has developed in new born or babies under one year old, should be investigated by your Medical Doctor. One can check ‘The Infection Service’ and/or ‘Rash Aftercare Service’ if they wish and not any other service.
