Achlorhydria

What is it?

Our stomach acid is also known as gastric juice which contains lots of different enzymes to break down our food and protein Each chemical has its own function.

  • This condition is when we have a lack of hydrochloric acid in our gastric juice.
  • There other conditions which we lack certain enzymes in our gastric juice and can cause similar symptoms.

  • Hydrochloric acid function is to maintain an acidic environment for our enzymes to function and break down our food and protein.
  • If food and protein can’t be broken down it can cause problems for the intestines to absorb food and lead to malnutrition.
