What is it?

Disease causing deficiency

  • Occur with other vitamin B deficiencies.

Signs and symptoms of deficiency

  • Inflammation (hot, red and swelling) of mouth and tongue (purplish colour appearance)
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Sore throat
  • Lesions on lips (cheilosis)
  • Damage at corners of mouth (angular stomatitis) that get infected by fungus causing greyish white appearance
  • Seborrhoeic dermatitis (dandruff) – dry, flaky skin, affects ears, eyes lids, scrotum which can be red, scaly and greasy.
  • Sensitivity to light
