Telangiectasias

What is it?

They are Dilated blood vessels on the surface of the skin causing an appearance  of thread-like red lines or patterns on the skin.

Common areas include:

  • Scalp (rare condition called Adam-oliver syndrome)
  • Nose
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Fingers
  • Thighs
  • Legs (known as spider veins)
  • Below the knees
  • Ankles

Cause

Syndromes

  • Adam-Oliver syndrome (rare genetic disease: areas of missing skin on scalp, nail abnormalities, fusion of fingers/toes, short fingers/toes, missing fingers/toes, heart and lung conditions).
  • Goltz syndrome

Symptoms

  • Red, blue, or purple linear marks measuring less than 1–3 mm in width and several millimeters to centimeters in length?
  • Appearance  of thread-like red lines or patterns on the skin?
  • Disappear temporarily if you press on them with your finger?
  • Itchy?
  • Painful?
