What is it?

An inflammatory disease that can develop after a group A strep infection that affects the tiny filters in your kidneys (glomeruli).

  • Glomeruli remove excess fluid, electrolytes and waste from your bloodstream and pass them into your urine.
  • This condition can come on suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic).
  • Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis can affect persons of any age group, but it is most common in children aged 5-6 years and persons older than 60 years.
