Sever’s Disease

What is it?

A temporary condition usually affecting children whist growing causing muscles in the heel to become tight making it less flexible causing pain and swelling to the Achilles tendon (the strongest tendon) from the heel to the growth plate.


Diagnosis test

Cause

  • Sport with high impact on feet i.e soccer basketball, running
  • Prolonged standing
  • Poor fitting shoes
  • Person prone to ankle rolling
  • Flat feet
  • High heels
  • One leg shorter than other
  • Overweight

Symptoms

  • Aching, painful muscles, muscle cramps/spasms/stiffness?
  • Joint and stiffness pain?
  • Children have pain at back of feet and heel (swollen heal) of feet as they grow or when doing foot activities i.e. soccer)?
