Pouchitis is an inflammation (hot, red and swelling) of the pouch that occurs when the pouch becomes irritated and inflamed.
A patient may have to have surgery to remove remove their large intestine and rectum because of bowel conditions.
A pouch is used to replace these organs that can store and eliminate stools (by connecting the ileum, or lowest part of the small intestine, to the anus to create a pouch) that can store and eliminate stools.
