Orbital Myositis (Idiopathic Orbital or Ocular Myositis)
What is it?
A rare condition when muscles that control the movement of the eye becomes inflamed (hot red and swollen).
It occurs mostly in young to middle-aged adults, affecting more women than men.
Cause
Unknown
An autoimmune disease occurs when your body’s disease-fighting cells, called antibodies, attack your healthy cells in this case you blood vessels and muscles.

Symptoms
Bulging eyes?
Eye(s)/eyelid muscles drooping causing blurred or double vision any visual problems
colour blindness, difficulty focusing and/or pain behind eye (One or both eyes can be affected)?
Eyes that seem ‘stuck’?
Red eyes?
Swelling around the eyes?
Eye pain that worsens with eye movement?

This condition can lead to:
Difficulty swallowing. If the muscles in your oesophagus are affected, you may have problems swallowing (dysphagia), which in turn may cause weight loss and malnutrition.
