What is it?

It is a rare cancer of the nasal cavity and sinuses.

Cause

  • Nasal polyps
  • Nasal lumps
  • Nasal injury
  • Smoking
  • Previous cancers history
  • Human papilloma virus (HPV virus)
  • Occupation, exposure to:
    • Dust and chemicals i.e.
    • Metals (nickel, beryllium)
    • Paint manufacture and fumes
    • Wood
    • Coal
    • Oils (petrol, diesel)
    • Alcohols
    • Leather dust

  • Radiotherapy

Symptoms

  • Blocked nose/congestion one one side of the nose?
  • Sinusitis (feeling of pain around eyes and ears blocked)?
  • Pain or pressure in your ears?
  • Nose bleeds?
  • Lack of smell?
  • Runny nose?
  • Feeling of mucus travelling from nose to back of throat causing a cough
  • Breathing difficulties?
  • Lump or growth on face or on roof of mouth?
  • Numbness on face particularly upper cheek that doesn’t go away?
  • Loose teeth?
  • Swollen lymph glands and/or reoccurring mouth ulcers?
