Heat Rash (Miliaria)

Heat rash is a skin condition when your pores become blocked and sweat can’t escape.

  • It often affects in hot and humid weather conditions.
  • Babies are more likely to develop heat rash because their pores are underdeveloped

 

There are many types:

  • Miliaria crystalline (Common and mildest)
  • Miliariarubra (Prickly heat)
  • Miliariapustulosa (Adults)
  • Miliariaprofunda (Rare)

Symptoms

Does one have:

Miliaria crystalline (common and mildest) - (occurs mainly Babies affected)

A common condition in babies and peaks at around one week old.

It arises in crops (1-2 mm), the vesicles/spots can appear anywhere within days to weeks of heat exposure and should disappear within hours to days with general hygiene and mild treatment.

  • Small clear or white bumps filled with fluid on the surface of your skin and are bumps are bubbles of sweat?
  • The bumps often burst?
  • Non-itchy?
Miliaria rubra (Prickly heat) - (occurs mainly in babies, children and/or adults)

In babies they appear within 1- 3 weeks of age and occurs most commonly in the fold of necks, armpits and groin.

All ages:

It occurs due to blockage of the sweat glands, good hygiene is essential and to try to prevent unnecessary sweating.

  • Itchy or prickly sensations?
  • Red bumps and sore skin?
  • A lack of sweat in the affected area due to pores being blocked?
