Horner’s Syndrome

What is it?

A condition that affects the nerves system supplying the eye.

Cause

Illicit drugs

  • Illicit Drug use (especially those who inject themselves regularly when one attempts to inject into the deep veins of their neck known as a ‘pocket shot’).

Syndromes

Symptoms

  • Upper eye lids drooping?
  • Pupils are constricted on affected side (if shine torch pupils constrict, when remove torch, the pupil dilates more slowly than the other ‘normal’ eye)?
  • Unable to open eye on affected side?
  • Lack of sweating when doing anything physical or expose to heat on affected side (skin may feel more dry on that side)?
  • Red rash on face?
  • A new rash that has appeared or existing rash getting worst?
  • Headache on affected side of face?
  • Headache which is on and off or a constant headache longer than 24 hours?
  • Neck pain on affected side of face?
  • Face pain on affected side of face?
