What is it?

A life threatening viral condition caused by exposure to rodents and deer mice urine and faeces especially during camping and going in to old unused buildings.

  • It does not spread between humans.

Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs should not be used as this condition can affect your kidneys. Check with your Medical doctor/Pharmacist when one can have any type of fever reducing medication to make sure it suitable for you.

Cause

  • Virus: Hanta virus
  • Exposure to rodents and mice nesting, urine and droppings.

Symptoms

Symptoms develop suddenly:

  • High temperature greater than 38°C (100°F) or over and/or chills and sweats?
  • Aching, painful muscles, muscle cramps/spasms/stiffness?
  • Dry cough longer than three weeks or breathing difficulties?
  • General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?
  • Headache which is on and off or a constant headache longer than 24 hours?
  • Balance and dizziness problems?
