The kidney is not regulating phosphate as it should and causing hypophosphatemic (low phosphate in the blood due to too much phosphate lost via urine) rickets.

  • Immunosuppressant: Azathioprine (Imuran)
  • Anti-viral: Cidofovir (Vistide)
  • Antibiotics: Gentamicin, Tetracycline

Symptoms

  • Joint stiffness and pain?
  • Increase thirst, heavy sweating and need to urinate frequently?
  • General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?

Calcium deficiency (osteoporosis)

  • Pain during movement which goes away at rest (there is normally no pain unless bone is broken)?
  • Morning stiffness and goes away quickly?
  • Nodules at back of hand?
  • One side mainly affected i.e. knee, hip?
  • Hand terminal joints affected not wrist?
  • Curved spine (due to fractured, weak or cracked spine) because it can’t hold the body up?

Rickets

  • Sore bone pain?
  • Curved spine?
  • Soft bones/weak bones?
  • Thick ankles or wrists?
  • ‘Pigeon chest’ where breast bone sticks out?
  • Prone to facture?
  • Curved/boned legs?
  • Poor growth and development?
  • Dental problems?
