What is it?

Liver disease associated with blood vessel veins in the liver.

  • The term is used for cases of liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension in which a recanalization (formation of new canals or paths, especially blood vessels, through an obstruction such as a clot) of umbilical and paraumbilical veins causes a loud venous hum that can be heard over the abdomen.
