Cradle cap is ‘baby dandruff’ and is not harmful or contagious.
- It is a condition which can flare up and develop quickly.
It is not due to poor hygiene
Cause
- Unknown
- However it is thought to be caused by:
- An agent called Malassezia Pityrosporum Ovale/Pityrosporum and Candida.
- Vitamin H (B7) deficiency – part of vitamin b complex
- Too much sebum (a moisturising agent) produced by the skin which reduces the shedding of the skin.
- It occur on ‘ rich areas’ of the face , ear and or scalp.
- It normally occur in babies up to to 3 months of age.
