Cauliflower Ear

What is it?

A repeated ear injury causing redness and inflammation to the outer part of the ear.

Cause

  • Playing contact sports i.e. rugby, martial arts, wrestling boxing
  • Eczema
  • Ear injury
  • Ear trauma
  • Ear infection of upper part of the ear (i.e. piercing)
  • Scratching ear constantly and causing injury

Symptoms

  • Hot, red, swollen outer ear (pinnar) and in ear hole?
  • Dry skin in and around ear hole?
  • Ear itch and is irritated?
  • Jaw pain and/or difficulty chewing, swallowing and/or talking and/or slurred speech and/or difficulty in opening the mouth and /or difficult to eat?
  • Jaw and/or ear hurts and/or pain underneath ear and on that side of face?
  • Sensitivity to everyday noise and/or ringing noise within and/or difficulty hearing?
  • Enlarged lymph node on the side of your neck?
  • Sore throat longer than seven days or more?
  • Mild pain in the ear (when outer ear is touched or pulled gently)?
  • Lack of ear wax?
