Athlete’s foot is a contagious fungal infection known as tinea pedis.
Every human sheds skin from their feet, the fungus lives within the skin and is picked up by others when they walk bare footed.
There are many forms:
Interdigital ‘type’
It occurs between the toes, mainly between 4th and 5th toe.
The skin becomes very scaly which peels and then cracks and becomes very itchy when footwear is removed.
It then spreads across and rarely affects the big and 2nd toe.
