Asherman’s Syndrome

What is it?

It is characterized by the bonding of scar tissue that lines the walls of the uterus, which decreases the volume of the uterine cavity.

  • One then has blisters or trauma in the endometrial cavity leading to no periods and infertility.

Cause

  • Several vaginal dilated conditions
  • Any damage or trauma to the endometrial cavity

Treatments

  • Surgery (i.e. scraping or cleaning of tissue from the uterine wall, removing pulps)

Symptoms

  • Abdominal pain and/or are constant violently vomiting or vomiting longer than two days (one day if a child) and/or cramping pain?
  • Abdominal heaviness and/or swelling in abdomen?
  • Blisters in the area and/or unexplained burning/stinging/sore pain in the skin surrounding the entrance to the vagina (vulva) and/or vaginal pain in the background and can be worse when sitting?
  • Lack of menstrual cycle (interrupted menstrual blood flow with substantial pain) or no bleed?
  • Miscarriages?
  • Infertility?

  • Abdominal heaviness and/or swelling in abdomen (this may indicate a partial or full blockage of the uterus or cervical canal that can cause retrograde menstruation (menstruation blood that flows backwards into the fallopian tubes instead of being expelled from the body).
