General tips
- All the family should be treated at the same time even if they don’t have no symptoms.
- Eggs of these ringworms can survive two weeks and worms six weeks on the surface, therefore one need to clean/wash all clothes, towels, toothbrushes, utensils, toys, bed linen, food, all surfaces for at least six weeks after the infection has cleared up because treatment does not kill eggs only worms.
- Scrub under nails, avoid biting or sucking fingers.
- Keep nails short, wear cotton gloves to cut down itchiness, particularly at night. (People don’t realise they scratch themselves at night).
- Wash hands frequently before eating food and especially after going to toilet.
- To prevent stomach infections and diarrhoea, good food hygiene is essential and store toothbrushes away in a cupboard (it is important to minimise the ingestion of threadworms).
- Wear closed fitting clothes (underwear and pyjamas) and change underwear each morning to avoid shedding eggs.
- Have a bath or shower daily/regularly first thing in morning, which will help to remove an eggs laid overnight.
- Clean anus and vagina particularly in Luke warm or cold water.
- Do not share towels or face flannels or cutlery.
- Vacuum thoroughly and regularly.
- It is good advice to not to scratch anus area and then put hands in mouth.
- Do not eat in bed as one may swallow eggs that has shaken on the bedclothes
- Children are advised to go to school and the teacher should be informed.
- Advised females to wipe from front to back after going to the toilet (to prevent transfer of worms and eggs).
