What is it?

Felty syndrome is a rare disorder that is common long term rheumatoid arthritis, a swollen spleen and a decreased white blood cell count.

  • Persons/people with this condition are more at risk of infection.

Cause

  • Unknown

Symptoms

  • Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms?
  • Pale-looking skin?
  • Joint stiffness and pain?
  • Recurrent infections?
  • Enlarged spleen?
  • Diagnosed Anaemic (i.e. lack of oxygen in blood, due to lack of iron, folic acid or heavy blood loss)?
  • Abdominal pain and/or are constant violently vomiting or vomiting longer than two days (one day if a child)?
  • Unexplained weight loss?
  • Long term persistent indigestion, frequent heartburn or constant abdominal pain?
  • Feeling discomfort, fullness, or pain on the upper left side of the abdomen; this pain may spread to your left shoulder?
  • General discomfort (muscle weakness), uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise) and/or fatigue (tiredness)?
  • Feel full quickly when eating trapped wind and burping  (‘foul rotten egg smell’)?
  • Stomach lumps (Swelling over spleen area)?

  • Jaundice (Yellow skin colour on skin and whites of eyes (jaundice) that can be itchy, pain over liver area and may have urine darker than normal and may have stools appear pale)?
