Pericarditis (Dressler’s Syndrome)

What is it?

Pericarditis (inflammation hot, red, swelling of ‘the bag’ surround heart).

Dressler’s  syndrome

  • Occurs as an immune system response (the body reacts to the injured tissue by sending immune cells and proteins (antibodies) to clean up and repair the affected area.
  • Sometimes this response causes excessive inflammation in the pericardium) after damage to heart tissue or to the pericardium, from events such as a heart attack, surgery or traumatic injury.
Do not take Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs without Medical doctor/specialist supervision, Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs is not recommended in asthma or asthma type symptoms. Check with your Medical doctor/Pharmacist when one can have any type of fever reducing medication to make sure it suitable for you.

Symptoms

  • Sharp, stabbing chest pain, usually coming on quickly (middle or left side of the chest)?
  • Pain in one or both shoulders?
  • Sitting up and leaning forward tends to ease the pain?
  • Lying down and breathing deep worsens it?
  • Constant hiccups?
