- Painkiller medication overuse (associated with taking triptans or opioids for 10 or more days per month, or standard pain killers for 15 or more days per month)

- Patients should not use these products more than two days in a week and improvement can take up to 12 weeks, but that there may be some short-term initial worsening of headache upon withdrawal of the causative medication.
