What is it?

Asteatotic eczema, also known as eczema craquelé (french name for cracked appearance), is a common type of pruritic (itchy) dermatitis.

  • It can also be known as xerosis (xerotic eczema) , which is dry skin.
  • It characterized by dry, cracked, and scaling skin that is typically inflamed.

  • Unknown
  • Dry skin

Symptoms

  • Look at pictures, does it resemble to one‘s rash?
  • Crazy pave-looking appearance on lower legs and shins sometimes on arms and body?
  • Scrubbing the skin vigorously, hot baths and vigorous towel drying?

Complications /Information to beware of/General tips:

This condition can lead to:

  • Bacterial skin infections
  • Viral skin infections (eczema herpeticum, caused by herpes virus):
    • Areas of painful eczema that quickly get worse
    • Groups of fluid-filled blisters that break open and leave small, shallow open sores on the skin
    • High temperature and generally feeling unwell
