Bulbar Palsy

What is it?

A nerve condition where the nerves cranial nerves IX, X, XI and XII in the brain or nerves from the lower cranial nerves outside the brainstem do not work as they should causing the bulbar muscles to be affected (facial, tongue and mouth muscles).

  • This condition does not usually affect your eyes

Symptoms

  • Difficulty in swallowing?
  • Difficulty in chewing?
  • Nasal secretions?
  • Slurring of speech?
  • Tongue  muscles  are twitching?
  • Difficulty in handling secretions, dribbling saliva?
  • Choking on liquids?
  • problems in voice and making sounds?
  • Difficulty in speaking words?
  • Difficult in moving arms, hands and/or legs?
