Appendicitis

What is it?

It is the inflammation (hot, red and swelling) of the appendix.

  • If left untreated it could burst causing bacteria to spread into the blood (sepsis), damage other body parts (peritonitis) and can cause a serious bacterial infection.

Cause

  • Unknown
  • May be due to:
    • Infection i.e. Tapeworm
    • Obstruction in abdomen

Syndromes

Symptoms

  • Abdomen pain come quickly and getting worse over 3-4 hours?
  • Pain in the lower right hand side of abdomen?
  • Abdominal pain and/or are constant violently vomiting or vomiting longer than two days?
  • Loss of appetite?
  • Constipation and/or diarrhoea motion?
  • High temperature greater than 38°C, 100°F or over greater than 72 hours, chills and sweats?
  • Increase thirst, heavy sweating and need to urinate frequently?
