Symptoms of meningitis
Under the age of 2 yrs:
- Excessive sleeping (drowsy, floppy, listless, not responding) or irritated (doesnt like being handled)?
- Vomiting?
- Feeling poorly (refusing food?
- Crying a lot, moaning or high-pitched crying?
- High temperature greater than 38°C (100°F) or over and/or chills and sweats?
- Skin looks blotchy and pale?
- Cold extremities (cold hands and feet)?
- Purpuric (spotty rash that does not turn white when apply pressure)?
- Bulging soft spot (fontanel) on their head?
- Being stiff, jerk/seizure fits?
- Rapid breathing and grunting?
Adults/Children
- High temperature greater than 38°C (100°F) or over and/or chills and sweats?
- Headache (severe)?
- Stiff neck?
- Vomiting and nausea?
- Hate of bright lights?
- Confusion/delirious (irritated)?
- Sleepiness (drowsy, difficult to wake?
- Cold hands and feet?
- Severe muscle pain?
- Stomach cramps and diarrhoea?
- Dislike bright light?
- Seizure (fits) (referral instantly)?
- Purpuric Spot/rash (does not turn white under pressure)?
- Being stiff, jerk/seizure fits?
- Rapid breathing and grunting?
